Campaign Underway collection of batteries used in Easter (25/03/2010)

The Councillor for Sustainable Development of the City of Cartagena, Isaiah Camarzana, and the general director of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control, Francisco Espejo, today unveiled the monument to the Third Campaign procession of separate collection of used batteries generated at Easter.

As in the previous edition, will be placed five containers of batteries, hot pink, on the outskirts of Murcia, near the church of Santa Maria and adjacent to the warehouses of the Guilds, and will be active for forty days after Good Friday.

As noted Mirror, this campaign is a must and will be a tradition as Easter itself, since during the celebration of it, large amounts of used batteries from the hachotes of their hoods, which are considered hazardous waste , and must be recycled.

The campaign began as a pilot in 2008 used 3 containers.

During that period, the company undertook LHICARSA regular collection of container and transport to the eco-park in Cartagena, with a total of 500 kilos collected.

In 2009, the management of ERP (Integrated Management of Used Batteries), which repeats this year, the campaign was the collection of 700 kilos, a figure that this year could be exceeded, although the use of this material is reduced each year with the introduction in California Guilds mako and lighting system based on LED light bulbs that require less battery.

Currently there are a dozen fixed points of used batteries in marquees around the city, as explained Councilman Sustainable Development and the City is expected to sign an agreement with ERP for the placement of more containers.
