The community manages the road to Lo Campano Escombreras as an alternative route in case of emergency (15/02/2010)

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, and the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, today launched the improvement of road connecting the towns of tailings and Santa Lucia, RM-F46.

As explained Ballesta is opening an alternative exit route to the main arteries of industrial site referred to in the Emergency Plan and Evacuation Escombreras Valley and increases the safety of drivers, especially for workers who come daily to the industrial core.

The project has been the overall improvement of the road with the spread of two layers of asphalt, installation of safety barriers along the entire route, placement of new signage and layout of the ditches with concrete.

FIRST STONE

Furthermore, this morning, Barreiro and Crossbow have laid the first stone of the refurbishment of the RM-320 road, in the section that corresponds to Escombreras to Portman Road.

The mayor explained that this action represents an important improvement of access to the Repsol refinery and will provide greater security to communications in the Valley of tailings, the largest chemical industrial zone of the Region of Murcia and one of the main Spain's energy centers.

The action includes strengthening the firm of RM-320, which goes Escombreras road to Portman Road, which connects with the RM-322, which gives access to both the refinery and a railway station Escombreras , which runs parallel to the track.

Both roads are characterized by high heavy vehicle traffic, so it's a performance that will particularly benefit the carriers.

The works include construction of a roundabout at the junction of two roads, which intersect the solution to a conflict, improving road safety.

Both actions are part of actions Improvement Plan for Integral Development of the Industrial Zone Escombreras Valley, which includes 43 measures to boost security, accessibility, internal and external mobility, infrastructure and equipment of the industrial core which produces more than 10% of the energy consumed in the country, a set of actions promoted by the regional government have invested 257.6 million euros.

NEW ACCESS TO DOCK

Also, José Ballesta has reported that the Ministry has already started drafting the layout and construction of new access to the tailings basin from Cartagena, a measure contained in the Plan for Revitalization of regional government that will promote economic development in the Valley and boost business, through a new access road communications backbone in the industrial core.
