The Polytechnic next year will invest 20% more in research and new technologies (17/12/2009)

The Governing Council of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena has this morning approved the budget of the college for next year.

The 2010 accounts are characterized by a significant increase in investment associated with research, strong support to the implementation of new technologies and efforts of austerity in current spending.

Real investments for next year are one of every four euros of the budget.

Overall, growing by 4.8% to reach 15 million euros.

In relation to infrastructure investment should be emphasized in the second phase of Building Research and Teaching Laboratories (ELDI) will receive five million euros, two million euros to be allocated to the School of Architecture and Engineering Building, the 900,000 euros for reform and Naval Mines Building and half a million euros to be allocated to the construction of an indoor swimming pool at Club Santiago and implementation of sports facilities.

Very significant is the increased budget are dedicated to research and new technologies that increase almost twenty percent, with particular importance to research grant funds from competitive contests regional, national and European, which grew by 117%.

The budgets of the UPCT grow by 6.6% to 61,911,000 euros.

The budget increase is the result of the increase in current transfers from the autonomous region, amounting to 38.4 million euros, a 8.76% increase this year.

It also increases the transfer of capital of the Autonomous Region in 2.89% to reach 14 million euros.

State contributions equally recorded an increase of 14.3%.

Another of the highlights of the accounts of the Polytechnic University is the effort of austerity in current spending has reduced by a margin of between 8% and 10% current expenditure on schools, departments and university services.

However, this share increased by 5.8% by joining the UPCT of new buildings such as the Faculty of Sciences of the Company on the DIC or the Old Student House.

The Budget also provides for an increase in staff costs, justified by the consolidation of jobs UPCT staff, promotion of teachers and teacher recruitment for the School of Architecture and Engineering Building.

This item, which represents 54.8% of the total budget grows by 9.9%, representing almost 34 million euros.

Moreover, the Governing Council of the Polytechnic University has approved the new curriculum of the degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Systems, to be sent to the Aneca with the aim of which is introduced next year.
