Ramón García donates his photographic archive to the City Council (04/12/2009)

The City Council has accepted the donation of Photographic and documentary Ramon Garcia Perez in the course of the Governing Board held today, a file that contains much of the history of Cartagena during the years when the nonagenarian photographer dedicated to portraying the great moments in the city.

All this legacy is that he has now decided to donate to the Council for cataloging and conservation.

A LIFE DEDICATED TO PHOTOGRAPHY

Ramón García Pérez, Cartagenero of the Year 2007, was born in Cartagena in 1917, within a family related to cinematography: his father and uncles: The Brothers Garcia were the first to bring the cinema to Cartagena in 1897, projecting films in a shack in the Paseo del Muelle, which alternated with film projection varieties.

Although professionally trained as a silversmith goldsmith was in alley Street San Francisco, was stronger than his love of photography which began at age 15.

As a professional photographer began in the daily line, in 1960, collaborating with Carlos Valcárcel and Pascual García Mateos.

Later he became partner of Truth and correspondent for the news agency Europa Press.

To his credit has three national photojournalism awards: among them one for the story that drew on refinery fire in the late sixties of last century and one on a boat that crashed into the port of Cartagena.

He also collaborated with the now defunct newspaper El Noticiero de Cartagena.

His camera has captured all the celebrities who have visited our city and it is still unusual to see him with his camera in the first line of official acts.

Considered the dean of photojournalists his latest work has been collaborating with the magazine Cartagena 7 days.

Has been the main driver of those tributes have been paid to the teacher in Cartagena Álvarez, creator of pasodoble Sighs of Spain, which feels a special attraction.

He was appointed official photographer of the Federation troops and legions of Romans and Carthaginians and has received many honors for this long life and enthusiasm for the things of Cartagena.
