The mayor defended the employment of the disabled before the Congress of autonomic Cermis (20/11/2009)

The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and the councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon, have received this morning at the Palace Hall, the participants of the V Congress of the Spanish Committee of Disabled Persons (Cermis) Autonomy, which develops during these days in the Region of Murcia.

A formal reception attended CERMI president, Luis Cayo Pérez Bueno, and the president of CERMI Murcia, Joaquín Barberá.

The city of Cartagena is working to take a further step in increasing the integration of persons with disabilities to jobs in local government.

To do this, we must strive to adapt the means necessary to facilitate the access of these people work, said the mayor.

Cermis president, Luis Cayo, thanked the mayor's words, especially in the economic situation that we now live.

Currently, more than 4 million disabled people in the country, and most have difficulties in access to employment.

Congressional representatives have been handed a gift to the mayor and the councilman, in gratitude for their support and the interest taken in the disabled.

After the reception, the visitors had the opportunity to meet the most emblematic of this city, history and art that hides in every corner, and know the local gastronomy Cartagena.

Divided into two groups, have made a tour of the Museo del Teatro Romano and boat tour of Cartagena Bay.

This visit is part of the activities being carried out by the Congress, which was held on 19 and 20 November, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Social Policy, Women and Immigration of the Government of the Region Murcia.

In it, various issues have been addressed the effects of the crisis on employment within the disability sector, infractions and administrative penalties on equal opportunities, non discrimination and universal accessibility for disabled people in the Autonomous Regions and as to consider various ideas in the field of disability for the revision of Law Unit.

In addition, submit a list of good practices in disability policies territorial, will discuss the social image of disability and how to attract the media in this regard, and will present plans and guidelines on disability collective college.
