First step for implantation in the UPCT the Master Engineer of Mines (19/11/2009)

The rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Felix Faure, today signed a cooperation protocol with the dean of the Superior Council of Colleges of Mining Engineers, José Carrasco Galán, and the dean of the College of Mining Engineers of Levante, Juan Manuel Manrubia, which will launch the project for the implementation of the Master Engineer of Mines.

The creation of this Master will transform the School of Civil Engineering at a College, because for the first time in its educational offerings include a graduate degree.

The rector of the UPCT, Felix Faure, stressed the crucial importance of this agreement, "which is the first step towards the creation of this new title fully adapted to European Higher Education Area."

A working group composed of four members of the UPCT and four corporations of Mines and coordinated by a Vice Chancellor shall determine the timetable of actions.

The director of the School of Civil Engineering, Antonio García Martín, stressed that there will by both the University and by the College of Mines "to work at a lively pace and intense enough to take the next few months defined the Master Plan Study. "

The aim of the UPCT is that the new title, which would last two years, is implemented at the latest during 2011/2012, although it is possible he could start even next year.

The path taken to implement the Master Degree in Mining Engineering from the hand of the collegiate bodies of Mining Engineers is similar to what has continued to successfully implement other masters that are already part of the curriculum of the UPCT.

The School of Civil Engineering has also launched the transformation of the three specialties of Mining Engineering (Mining Exploitation, Minerallurgy and Metallurgy and Energy Resources) Degree in Engineering in Mineral Resources and Energy, a title fully adapted to Bologna and will have a duration of four years and 240 credits.

Indeed, the working committee of the School of Civil Engineering created for this purpose yesterday approved the curriculum, which will shortly be sent to the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANEC).
