Cartagena UPyD calls that higher water bill are determined by the annual CPI. (17/11/2009)

Councillor of Finance introduced the full City yesterday some of the figures of the next municipal budget.

Among them, announced a 5.15% increase in water bill.

The fact that water consumption were reduced last year by 8.51%, leads to the paradox that the reduction ends up increasing the cost that citizens have to pay for drinking water.

From Cartagena UPyD ask, as we did in the municipal budgets for 2009 that increases in municipal services are determined by the annual CPI.

Undoubtedly, in this exercise and because of the crisis, the price increase will be below 5% proposed increase in water rates.

We also request the revision of the agreement that the City has signed with the company Aguagest to reductions in consumption, especially valuable in a water deficit as ours, are not passed on to remarkable increases to compensate the concessionaire the decrease in turnover.

Must be the company's Aguagest to bear the cost of this and not citizens, whose awareness towards the sustainability of natural resources has led to the reduction in consumption.
