Viudes declines public debate on the macropuerto in El Gorguel (11/11/2009)

Note sent by Ecologists in Action:

The president of the Cartagena Port Authority challenged a few weeks ago, critics of his proposed container macropuerto The Gorguel to "show that it is incompatible with the regeneration of the Portman Bay."

Now that you are offered the opportunity for a public debate, Adrian Angel Viudes reverses and declines a challenge that he threw.

Faced with the challenge launched in late October the President of the Port Authority of Cartagena, Adrian Angel Viudes, Ecologists in Action sent an invitation to hold a public debate and bring to the table all the information available about the feasibility of the proposed installation of a container terminal in El Gorguel, presenting this as an opportunity to demonstrate their interest in informing the public of the pros and cons of this project.

Viudes, despite being convinced of the profitability of the port of Gorguel, and that the location is ideal, being compatible with the environment and regeneration Portman Bay, has flatly rejected this invitation, as can be seen in the letter issued from the Port Authority Ecologists in Action, showing how little interest he has in bringing to light all the information, views from all possible impacts and benefits of the project.

As Adrian Angel himself Viudes recognized in this response, the Port Authority's partners are the Ministry of Development and the Ministry of Environment in his case, leaving the door closed to any other institution or social group, as Ecologists in Action it only wants to bring to light all the information on this project in the public interest and to protect a space that belongs to everyone.

Ecologists in Action, notes that the draft Regeneration Portman Bay, is closely related to the specific interests of the Port Authority to carry out the proposed container macropuerto The Gorguel (which are inconsistent with the feedback), as Portman is a historic debt with the villagers and the Region of Murcia in general, besides being declared Acting Regional Interest.
