They manage to make prints on materials even smaller than a human cell (22/10/2009)

Researchers at the Department of Materials and Manufacturing Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Advanced Polymers, University of North Texas in the United States have been obtained so far are smaller logos of the Autonomous Community and UPCT.

To achieve them, nanolithography techniques have been used on new composites of carbon nanotubes, which have been prepared by the Department of the Polytechnic.

The equipment used is called FIB / FESEM and to study nanomaterials and the making of "nanomecanizados" for the manufacture of devices and components at the nanoscale (10-9 m), being used this technique in the field of Science and Engineering Materials.

Collaboration with the American group, has studied the distribution of carbon nanotubes in the new composite materials that have been made by the Department of UPCT, and are part of the research currently being conducted.

This research has been conducted under the program of the Fundación Seneca External Researchers breaks 2009. "

The pictures show the logos engraved on the new material, with a size close to that of a bacteria and even smaller than a human cell, necessitating a high-resolution electron microscope for observation.
