Intercepted at sea a boat with 12 immigrants (06/10/2009)

Twelve immigrants who sailed in a boat have been rescued at noon today by a coastguard vessel, which then led them to the port of Cartagena, escorted by a patrol of the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil.

The presence of the dinghy had been sent by a Merchant Marine Rescue that had been sighted at a distance of between 45 and 50 miles off the coast of Cartagena (ie, from 83'3 to 92'6 miles).

The communication also indicated that that boat was adrift.

After the warning, the Marine Rescue boat went in search of the dinghy, which was intercepted at 12'20 hours when he was 34 miles (almost 70 kilometers) off the coast, proceeding then to the transfer of twelve immigrants carrying it to the port of Cartagena, where he also carried the skiff used.

Port arrival occurred at 15 hours, being made available to the National Police.

The twelve immigrants are all male and were in apparent good health.

One of them is a minor, a condition that could have some more of them.
