Intercepted a boat with eleven immigrants 60 miles southeast of Cape Palos (07/08/2009)

All eleven occupants of a boat have been rescued shortly after noon today by the device provided for that purpose after they should have knowledge of the presence of it at sea.

The presence of the vessel, about 60 nautical miles southeast of Cabo de Palos, was reported shortly after 8 am today to Salvage a merchant ship that sailed the high seas and that the occupants of the small boat called for help .

He immediately established by the Maritime Rescue appropriate device location and rescue of which included the rapid intervention vessel Salvamar Mimosa and Antarctic rescue tug, which departed from Cartagena, as well as the helicopter Helimer 207, which has its based in Almeria.

This device, which was also part of the patrol of the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil "Cervera River", let out at noon located the boat, which traveled eleven people, all male and elderly.

Given the state of one of them, who had a swollen leg, it was decided to refer it to the helicopter that took him to the airport of San Javier, where he was evacuated to an appropriate medical examination at a hospital.

The other ten immigrants were transshipped to the Marine Rescue vessel, together with the Civil Guard patrol boat, sailed to the port of Cartagena.

The eleven intercepted will be made available to the National Police for the investigation of the relevant files back to their country.
