Normal Boys, La Mar de Cine (24/07/2009)

With the intention of determining the origin of the terrorists, their reasons, motives which are behind ...

after the 11-M, documentarian Daniel Hernandez traveled to Morocco, Tetuan heart, trying to find answers to these questions.

Thus arises 'normal kids', a documentary film eventually became and planned this afternoon in the Nuevo Teatro Circo, after 19 hours, in the cycle The Sea Film.

Normal Boys is a film based on actual experience that goes into the homes and lives of three young men from Jamaa Mezwak, a slum in the city of Tetouan which had five of the suicide bombers in Madrid 2004.

Khader is a young man whose family debts forced to choose between her dream of becoming an actor or leave everything to be an illegal immigrant in Europe.

Rabies is a beautiful and ambitious young man of strong religious convictions, which despite being a lawyer fighting to open a clothing shop in the neighborhood, waiting for the return of her boyfriend.

Youssef, occasional camel fresh out of jail, following any track you can put on the trail of his older brother, who disappeared without trace.

'Normal Guys' breaks the myth of young Muslims who grow educated in the values of jihad, and shows that their hopes and problems are not so far from those of many other places and cultures.

Filmed at the approach of "cinema verite", the casting of nonprofessional actors permeates the action of sincerity and realism in an unusual approach to the life of the Muslim youth.

They are guys that are characterized by a lack of illusion, by the constraints of religion and tradition, and poverty in which they live, has said its director, who spent more than a year in this area, coexisting with its neighbors and without recording with his camera until he managed to convince us that the world should see how people lived in a neighborhood known only that it was the place of origin of terrorists.

In this way got a script based on real experiences, no filters, no questions asked, in which the actors were the protagonists of these lives.

In their experience I have found some answers to the questions I did when I started this project, said Hernández.

Asked about these 'normal kids', the director is clear about what we think is normal is the result of everyday life.

The biggest problem for the dialogue between cultures is not to get into the skin of another.

From our Western mind, it is difficult to find a common language with them, because what we mean one thing, like religion for them is something else, Hernandez noted.

Daniel Hernandez (Valladolid, 1959) began his career as publicity director and producer until 1994 when he founded with Paul Uson, the independent production "Alea Docs & Films", with which he has shot more than thirty documentaries.

The film was recently selected in the prestigious Film Festival Society and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) New York, and has particicipado in the following festivals: Festival de Cine de San Sebastian 2008 - Zabaltegi competition, 52 º BFI London Film Festival - European Film, 49 International Thessaloniki International Film Festival - Official Selection, Cairo International Film Festival International Selection, Cape Winelands Film Festival (South Africa) - International Selection, 24 International Film Festival in Guadalajara (Mexico) - Europe Trends, 33rd Cleveland International Film Festival.
