Lifting Q blue flags and Quality on the beaches of the municipality (06/07/2009)

The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, presided this morning over the laying atop the mast of the first of the blue flags and waving Q Quality this summer on the beaches Cartagena.

It was in the urban beach of Cala Cortina, which then followed the beaches of Mar de Cristal, Playa de Levante Cabo de Palos Cala del Pino in La Manga.

Remember that the municipality of Cartagena will this summer with seven blue flag beaches, so that the already mentioned we must add the smaller island, Playa Honda and Playa del Cavanna in La Manga.

In this ceremony also attended the council of Infrastructure, José Vicente Albaladejo; of Public Safety, Public Roads and Tourism, Javier Herrero, and Sustainable Development, Isaiah Camarzana and the director of the Institute of Coastal Municipal Services, Gabriel Ruiz.

The mayor stressed that the city of Cartagena is the most flags with the Q for Quality in Spain, while shares with blue flags 'reign' to another town in the Mediterranean peninsula, Fuengirola.

These flags are the result of work done on the beaches, in terms of accessibility, cleanliness, service and professionalism of the emergency services and civil protection, has indicated Barreiro.

The mayor pointed out that the sun and beach tourism has not been abandoned, despite having opted by other types such as culture and heritage.

The next target is the western part of the municipality (Isla Plana, La Azohía, El Portus) next year to get one of these two awards, while the Q for Quality, either or both the Blue Flag, commented the director of the Institute Litorial Municipal Services, Gabriel Ruiz, once it has been on the filter of The Azohía, which will serve the whole area of the municipality.

The Blue Flag is an award given for 23 years by the Foundation for Environmental Education (ADEAC), through its representative in Spain, the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education.

This will take into account various aspects such as the quality of bathing water, provision of cleaning services, rescue and first aid, access for the disabled and the provision of environmental education activities, among others.
