Cartagena this weekend held its first Night of Museums (14/05/2009)

Mucho Mas Mayo Festival, organized by the Youth Council, has prepared for Saturday May 16 Night of Museums, an initiative that is held for the first time in Cartagena and will open the doors of the Roman Theatre Museum, National Museum Underwater Archaeology (ARQVA), the Regional Museum of Modern Art (Muram), the Civil War Museum (Refuge) and the Municipal Archaeological Museum Enrique Escudero de Castro, from sunset till dawn.

Access to schools during this opening night will be free and will feature the conclusion of an extensive program of cultural activities open to the participation of citizens: theater, music, poetry, puppetry, dance and other multi-disciplinary proposals, as well as major collections that can be seen daily in these museums.

During the presentation of this event, held last Friday, the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, museum highlighted the important revolution that took place in Cartagena in the last nine months, with the opening of three new museums, which have joined to offer Cartagena culture to make the city in reference to national level and within the Mediterranean area, in response to the growing trend in the number of tourists and visitors.

The ceremony also attended by the representatives of the five museums participating in this experience as well as the Director General for Cultural Promotion, Antonio Martinez, who believes that this initiative becomes a living museum in equipment and fixtures, for all types of groups, and therefore we expect the rest of municipalities in the region follow the example of Cartagena and implement similar acts.

In the case of the Municipal Archaeological Museum Enrique Escudero de Castro, consist of a theatrical performance at the necropolis to reconstruct a Roman funeral.

For younger has scheduled a breakthrough: a Puppet Workshop, in which the dolls will guide you through the collections of the Municipal Archaeological Museum, to be held on Friday May 15, 17 to 20 hours.
