Cartagena celebrates its first Night of the Museums in the festival program Mucho Mas Mayo (08/05/2009)

Mucho Mas Mayo Festival, organized by the Youth Council, has prepared for the May 16 Night of Museums, an initiative that is held for the first time in Cartagena and will open the doors of the Roman Theatre Museum, National Museum Underwater Archaeology (arched), the Regional Museum of Modern Art (Muram), the Civil War Museum (Refuge) and the Municipal Archaeological Museum Enrique Escudero de Castro, from sunset till dawn.

Access to schools during this opening night will be free and will feature the conclusion of an extensive program of cultural activities open to the participation of citizens: theater, music, poetry, puppetry, dance and other multi-disciplinary proposals, as well as major collections that can be seen daily in these museums.

During the presentation of this event, the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, stressed the important museum revolution that has taken place in Cartagena in the last nine months, with the opening of three new museums, which have added to the Cartagena cultural offer make the city in relation to the national level and within the Mediterranean area, in response to the growing trend in the number of tourists and visitors.

In the presentation have also been the representatives of the five museums participating in this experience as well as the general director of Cultural Promotion, Antonio Martinez, who believes that this initiative becomes a living museum in equipment and fixtures, for all type of audience, and therefore we expect the rest of municipalities in the region follow the example of Cartagena and implement similar acts.

Mucho Mas Mayo Festival has agreed on five major museums to organize jointly the first Night of the Museums of Cartagena, a way to celebrate the remarkable increase of the local museum offer calling on citizens to visit them in an opening extraordinary and free night and enjoy an imaginative and diverse program of activities and events specially programmed for a special night.

Participating museums will be open from 21.00 h.

until 02.00 pm, with free access, subject only to such limitations as required by the events planned and the capacity of the different spaces.
