The King's Singers thrilled to Cartagena in the cycle ECOS (29/04/2009)

After 40 years singing a capella by half the world stage, The King's Singers are still the kings of the song, the undisputed leaders of vocal music worldwide.

In each of their performances, the six members exhibit the widest range of voices including male tessitura countertenor, tenor, baritone and bass.

His repertoire of over 3,000 songs ranging from medieval to known versions 'a cappella' by the Beatles.

Saturday May 2, from 20.30, The King's Singers will be in Cartagena in ECOS cycle, and the next day, day 3, Lorca.

Exceptionally, for those who wish to attend the two concerts, The King's Singers will offer two different programs in Cartagena and Lorca.

Cartagena program will consist primarily of harmonization of folk works of France and black Africa, black spirituals and folk songs of the twentieth century.

Lorca's program will have a semblance something more classic works of Romantic writers (Schubert, Saint-Saens), Renaissance and contemporary about love.

The Auditorium of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (Saturday, 2 May) and the Iglesia de San Francisco de Lorca (Sunday, May 3) are the places chosen this time to listen to this group, undoubtedly the 'main course' ECOS cycle this season.

Attendees can enjoy free, first-served basis, a musical journey through the most important songs of all time, with the help of David Hurley (countertenor), Timothy Wayne-Wright (countertenor), Paul Phoenix (tenor) Philip Lawson (baritone), Christopher Gabbitas (baritone) and Stephen Connolly (bass) who use their voices as the only tool to move through the music.

THE KING'S SINGERS

Founded in 1968 by six choristers of King's College, Cambridge, The King's Singers soon became a prominent musical force in the United Kingdom and soon after in the world.

From the beginning they have dared to everything from medieval music to masterpieces of the Renaissance, from romantic songs to amazing versions of Simon and Garfunkel or the Beatles.

They have also come to play, totally a capella, instrumental and the opening pages of The Barber of Seville.

The list of places where they have acted is equally extensive and varied, including cathedrals and palaces as well as many of the world's largest auditoriums.

The group was originally composed by Nigel Perrin, countertenor Alastair Hume, Alastair Thompson tenor, the baritone Anthony Holt and Simon Carrington and Brian Kay bass.

Throughout his forty year history, a total of nineteen different voices have been heard in the King's Singers, always keeping the staff of six components.

Since its founding, the group was influenced by the guidelines of Sir David Willcocks, the musical director of King's College, Cambridge, characterized by a sound of great cleanliness and brightness, using resources such as vibrato only to give the music a certain color .

His fame by the requirement to harmonize, balance and intonation in their own actions led them to share their knowledge through educational work and regularly taught master classes in many countries.

Since 1996, are the Prince Consort Ensemble-in-Residence at the Royal College of Music in London.

Ecos0809 continue until June, bringing the best ideas of classical music to current scenarios unique to the region for free.
