Cartagena than 215,000 inhabitants in 2009 (22/04/2009)

Cartagena has overcome the barrier of 215,000 inhabitants, according to data from the Statistical Office and the municipal population on 1 January 2009.

Specifically, the data reflect a population of 215,186 inhabitants, with a very equal distribution of men and women (108,981 men and 106,205 women).

This means that the population has grown by over a thousand people in one year (in 2008 there were 214,033), with the growing number of women who have had more weight in this annual trend.

On the other hand, note that the immigrant population has been maintained with respect to 2008, reaching the 30,936 inhabitants.

In this regard, it should be noted that every two years non-EU foreigners without permanent residence permit must renew their registration in the register, a period which expires on May 14 and will affect more than 500 immigrants who now are reflected in statistical data.

Continuing with the immigrant population, Morocco remains the most present in Cartagena, with 12,621 inhabitants, followed by Ecuador, with 4,086 inhabitants, and the UK, with 3,280 inhabitants.

The data are still very similar to last year, with a slight decrease among the people from Ecuador and the United Kingdom.

As for the zones, the town of Cartagena, San Antonio Abad and the Plan remain the three most populated areas of the municipality of Cartagena, in that order.

Also the Urban Center and St. Anton are a larger number of immigrants, appearing in this case the Rincon de San Ginés in third.
