"A thousand students learn to conserve the native flora" (30/03/2009)

A thousand schoolchildren from various schools in the municipality of Cartagena will visit this year ANSE nursery in Cartagena, in an organized activity with the Department of Education of the City of the port city.

During the visits, the children know first hand the operation of a native plant nursery, and the various phases that have passed since the collection of seed on the hill to field planting of seedlings obtained.

The recovery of endangered plants (such as Jara de Cartagena) or redemption of ancient cultures are missing some lines of work are shown to schoolchildren.

In addition, through various activities, students are involved in the recovery of native flora, and that they propagate one of the most emblematic species of our mountains: the palm (Chamaerops humilis).

The activity aims, first, to present significant environmental values that cherish our mountains, as endemic plants (exclusive) or species iberoafricanas (shared with North Africa) and involve students in conservation and recovery.

Moreover, the activity conveys values to students such as respect for the environment, the value of volunteering and the importance of responsible use (recycling, organic farming).

Even the similarities of our territory in North Africa, in ecological terms, is used as a tool of integration.

In the nursery of ANSE there are various lines of work have the support of various government entities.

This will implement recovery actions of wild flora endangered and protected under collaborative agreement established with the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity (Autonomous Region).

Furthermore, it has worked in the recovery of traditional varieties with the financial support of the Foundation Caixa Catalunya.

On the other hand, are propagated wetland plants and banks themselves in the context of Environmental Volunteer Program Ríos (Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine).

Finally, there have been plants to combat erosion and desertification in the framework of a project funded by the Biodiversity Foundation.
