The MARM positively assess the pipeline Cartagena-Puertollano (Ciudad Real) (05/03/2009)

• The chosen route runs at all times parallel to the existing pipeline Cartagena-Puertollano.

• It is expected the operation condition of the hydrology of the area due to the shallowness of the trench, however, take preventive measures to protect it.

The Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs has made the Environmental Impact Statement in favor of the project entitled "Pipeline Cartagena-Puertollano (Ciudad Murcia-Real)."

The DIA, now published in the BOE has determined that as long as they do the route chosen, and the action and indicated that environmental conditions have been derived from the evaluation process, will be adequately protected the environment and natural resources .

The project aims at building a pipeline of approximately 357 km in length, to carry out the distribution of a significant proportion of middle distillates (diesel and kerosene) under the expansion of the Cartagena refinery.

This will provide distilled to the central area of the peninsula, achieving diversification in providing them and, consequently, greater security and continuity of supply of energy products.

It will also serve to connect the Repsol YPF's refineries in Cartagena and Puertollano.

The chosen route runs at all times parallel to the pipeline (Cartagena-Puertollano) present, almost always within the easement strip, except in sections where the trace is separated slightly to save the crossings with linear structures and waterways.

To avoid impacts on the design phase, the developer establishes preventive measures such as the follow the route, wherever possible, corridors and access other existing infrastructure, avoid areas of archaeological and paleontological, protected areas, vegetation natural as well as choose a crossing point with water courses which represents a minimum condition of the vegetation and associated fauna.

Due to the shallowness of the ditch, no more than 2 m, under no circumstances will affect the operation of the hydrology of the area, however they take the necessary measures to protect it.

Also be ensured at all times the stream flow and, once installed the pipe, the riverbed will restore respect for their original morphology.

The DIA approved today provides, inter alia, the measures necessary to preserve the soil characteristics and topography as installation of retention of materials, revegetation and hydroseeding, limiting the construction area and the vehicle speed and traffic , proper management of hazardous substance spills etc.

In addition the sponsor includes a specific section concerning soil and decrease erosion.

With regard to wildlife work schedule be adjusted so as to affect as little as possible to the periods of maximum sensitivity of the species listed in the National and Regional Catalogues of Threatened Species.

In the sections where the pipeline crosses the Site of Community Importance (SCI) "Mountains and foothills of Alcaraz Relumbrar" and the SCI and Special Protection Area (SPA) "Sierras de Alcaraz and Segura and Cannons Segura and the World "will be out a draft of measures to promote environmental values of that space, based on the empowerment of populations of prey species of raptors and lynx, to be agreed with the competent environmental agency in the field, both Albacete and Ciudad Real.
