The Directorate General of Highways install a new system of barrier protection for motorcyclists (24/02/2009)

The performance is included in the Road Safety Program, which has a budget of 24 million euros this year

The Highways Agency has begun installing a new system of protection barriers in over a hundred new sections of the Road Network in the Region of Murcia.

The aim is to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents in the group of motorists, especially vulnerable to road accidents.

The Director of Roads, Jose Guijarro today oversaw the barriers placed on the road from Lo Romero (Campo de Cartagena), which has installed this system of protection in three roundabouts.

During the visit, Pebble recalled that this is an action included within the measures envisaged by the regional government in the Revitalization Plan submitted in March 2008, in the section on improving road safety in the National Road Network Community Autonomous.

Thus, the new barriers will be installed without cutting elements protection with a metal fence at the bottom, or a protective plastic art system that reduces the pressure received by the driver's body on impact.

Placement is made in very small radius curves of the Eastern counties, Altiplano, Vega Alta, Vega Media, Ricote Valley, Northwest, River Mula and Huerta de Murcia.

Guijarro explained that "the sections were selected after a technical study concludes that these were the points along which recorded a higher incidence of accidents."

For the moment, the road of the Manga, the port of Garruchal and variant Fortuna already have the new protections, especially designed to alleviate the damage suffered by motorists.

The director general said that it is a "priority" for the regional government and one of the main challenges has taken the Directorate General of Highways.

An investment of 24 million euros

The Ministry of Public Works will invest 24 million euros this year's Road Safety Program, which will serve to eliminate black spots on our roads and improve driving conditions.

Guijarro explained that "it is a very ambitious plan to stimulate the creation of new jobs and has 33 construction projects to improve the safety of Highway Network in the Region of Murcia."
