The City of Cartagena will be responsible for providing water to Los Camacho and Blessed (02/02/2009)

The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Agustin Guillen, Councillor for Infrastructure, José Vicente Albaladejo, the Councillor for Tourism, Javier Herrero, and Decentralization, Nicolás Ángel Bernal, have held this morning a working meeting with the mayor of La Union, Francisco Barnabas and his government team.

The result of this meeting, has signed an agreement whereby the City of Cartagena goes to provide potable water service to the districts of Los Camachos, The Blessed and Roche (in its area of Cartagena).

This is one of the measures included in the collaboration protocol signed by both councils last July, which commits them to jointly develop a series of initiatives beneficial to both municipalities.

The first agreement establishes the commitment of the City of Cartagena to supply drinking water to the residents of these hamlets and the villages and houses scattered in those areas, after the City Council of the Union has done so for over forty years , as indicated by the mayor of La Union.

Both municipalities are still working on other measures included in this protocol of cooperation and see the light soon, as the twinning of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas and La Mar de Músicas, to be effective in this year, the use by the municipality of La Union and the citizens of this county's Shelter and Treatment of Domestic Animals of Cartagena (CATAD) and the Workshop of Restoration of Works of Art belonging to the City of Cartagena, and collaboration between the Tourist Consortia Cartagena Port of Cultures and the Sierra Minera.

Mayor Pilar Barreiro has also highlighted another of the most significant projects included in the Decalogue of measures, including the conversion of the N-332 in an urban road between the two cities and the recovery of LVEF and intercity public transport.

Barreiro also noted that one of the most important joint efforts will be to promote tourism, keeping the recovery of archaeological and mining in both municipalities.
