The library opens Mediterranean IES (28/01/2009)

The Minister of Education, Training and Employment, Sotoca Constantine, accompanied by the director general of Educational Development, Carlos Romero, and the Councillor for Education of the City of Cartagena, Joseph Marotta, inaugurated this morning the new library of IES Mediterranean (Mediterranean Construction ), whose revitalization project has received a National Award for Library School, awarded by the Ministry of Education.

The Minister stressed the importance of such facilities, as one of the basic objectives of the Ministry of Education is to promote reading as a key element in learning and has been shown that young people with reading habits have improved academic performance has indicated Sotoca.

After the opening, the center students have read a selection of poems in various languages, as an example of the multiculturalism of this school, and made a small puppet theater performance on the history of Cartagena.

The Minister of Education also attended this morning the Admiral Bastarreche IES, which has delivered two simulators, one for navigation and other communications, the training cycle for Fisheries and Maritime Transport.

This cycle was introduced the previous school year - this year completes the first promotion - and has been in high demand among students, covering the 30 places on offer.

Constantine Sotoca stressed further that the Bastarreche IES is one of twelve centers in Spain where he developed a training cycle of these characteristics.
