ANSE requests the City of Cartagena to set aside the Partial Plan Villa Buenos Aires and transfer the youth housing project at the center of the city (12/01/2009)

Note from ANSE:

ASEAN has repeatedly conveyed to the City of Cartagena's request to exploit the performances in different plans to reform the city center and the new development of potash, to place public housing here for young people.

The project, which is sponsored by the City of Cartagena, CajaMurcia and a dozen builders, through the company called Young Cartagena, SL plans to build 1,800 houses for young people in the so-called "Finca Buenos Aires", located just off Mills Marfagones, in an area currently occupied by traditional fruit crops irrigated.

Far from helping the sustainable development of Cartagena, contribute to the recovery of marginal areas and stop the abandonment of the center, away 1,800 families of young people several miles from the city will contribute to increase these problems.

After the construction of the tollway Cartagena-Vera, and the Round West, the creation of large residential areas with ground floor units will increase the fragmentation of land degradation and increasingly large areas of agricultural landscapes, contributing to impairment.

ANSE insists that otherwise can grow without further destroying our land and landscapes, and makes a call to the responsibility of the Municipal Government, Regional Government, CajaMurcia and construction companies to focus their efforts in recovering the historical center of the city, and take advantage of adjoining land as the old factory Potasas, decontaminated, before developing new neighborhoods on the outskirts.

Various problems such as increased emissions of greenhouse gases, difficulty of movement in the center of the city, higher prices for transport, population growth and urbanization of the territory, urging a cultural change in the population, politicians and planners planning, to guide the future Cartagena towards a Mediterranean compact city, where first the use of public transport, pedestrian and bicycle before the private car, in the same way they are betting the cities with the highest quality of life Europe.

ANSE also considers that the redevelopment of land in this area requires Environmental Impact Assessment.
