Former Socialist councilor dies José Mata (11/12/2008)

José Mata was born in Cartagena in 1938 and was married to the former socialist councilor also Olimpia Ruiz. |

The former Socialist councilor, Jose Mata Fernández, died this morning as a result of his cancer for some time.

The mayor and the Municipal Corporation have expressed their condolences to the family by the disappearance of one of the most prominent figures in local politics in recent times.

José Mata was born in Cartagena in 1938 and was married to the former socialist councilor also Olimpia Ruiz.

He was municipal councilor in Cartagena by the PSOE in two terms, from 1995 to 2003, serving as chairman of the Municipal Socialist Group.

Institutional political career began much earlier:

Among 1987y 1991 was vice president of the Regional Assembly and from 1991 to 1993, director general of the Interior of the Autonomous Community.

In the PSOE held between 1982 and 1994, the General Secretariat of the Cartagena Group Centre.

Between 1986 and 1994, was executive secretary of the Regional Executive and in 1994, District of Cartagena general secretary and member of the PSOE Federal Committee.

The chapel is scheduled to be installed this afternoon from the Funeral Estavesa.
