The Cartagena overflowing with flowers on the altar of Santa Maria (09/11/2008)

The Municipal Corporation with more than sixty organizations, entities, associations and guilds Cartagena homage to the Virgin del Rosell and Santi Quattro Cartagena, in a massive religious ceremony, officiated on Saturday by the Bishop of Cartagena, Juan Antonio Reig Pla the church of Santa Maria.

As has been happening for three years, the ceremony included two events: the renewal of the vote of the City of Cartagena to San Isidro, San Leandro, San Fulgencio and Santa Florentina, for having saved the city from a storm on November 24, 1694 , and the characteristic of the Virgen del Rosell, Cartagena former patron, whose feast coincides with the second Saturday of November.

The bishop himself explained the significance of linking the two celebrations, which have to do with religious invocations oldest and most traditional of Cartagena, whose perseverance through the centuries shows the character of their own Cartagena.

The tradition of votive function at the Four Saints, popularly known as Santa Catalina had its origin in the night of November 24, 1694, the day of Santa Catalina, when a storm hit the city and nearly destroyed.

Miraculously it was not and was attributed to the protection of the Four Saints happy ending.

The Corporation then decided to hold every year an act of gratitude to the Four Saints, which has been ongoing since then.

For its part, the celebration of the feast of patron saint of Cartagena old, was recovered by the parish of Santa Maria de Gracia where they worship the image of the virgin brunette, who once chaired the ancient cathedral.

The offering to the Four Saints was made by Councilman Joaquin Segado, who related his home and asked the Saints and the Virgin del Rosell its protection to new hardships.

The celebration also included the proclamation of the Virgen del Rosell, delivered on this occasion by the councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon, who had a special remembrance for those who live alone.

The ceremony concluded with the offering of more than sixty organizations, associations, organizations and brotherhoods, which overflowed with flowers on the altar of Santa Maria, chaired by the Virgen del Rosell and Four Saints.
