ANSE complaint that "the failure of the slopes of the landfill at the Gorguel causes garbage output abroad" (09/11/2008)

Partnership members have been documented during Saturday morning as part of the slopes of the landfill of El Gorguel, which the company says Lhicarsa and the same city of Cartagena, had been restored and reforested with funds from the European Union, are partially destroyed by the action of surface runoff, carrying part of the waste to the outside, exposing both the accumulated waste such as geotextile protective film, and even the lower layer of phyllite used to waterproof the bottom of the landfill and thus avoid seepage of leachate.

ANSE believes that these images are the best reality show of the restoration work carried out at the old landfill in El Gorguel.

The poor quality of the restoration, the lack of proper maintenance, and lack of reforestation are the reasons why the rains are causing significant erosion in much of the landfill where the early hours of Saturday morning working a tractor to redistribute topsoil again in a job that supposedly had already completed a couple of years.

The Association alleged that the claims made by companies in Lhicarsa, SA, and the city of Cartagena, ensuring that one day the landfill, the Regent mine, you may still receive rejections for several months, have about 1.1 million m3 of garbage, is refuted by the information from the company.

Thus, the document for "Integrated Environmental Authorization rejects landfill Regent Mine, handled a few months ago, explicitly recognizes:

"The mine dump Regent rejects in principle designed for a lifespan of 15 years and a reception capacity of 875,000 m3, has been passed at a much lower than expected, even though the reconsiderations and modifications operating system that have increased their capacity by approximately 35% of the initial project.

Well, in late 2005, the volume of product received at the landfill is located in the environment to 940,000 m3, and by September 2007 should proceed to the final closure, after having received a total of 1,200,000 m3 .

At that time, the system will lack the infrastructure to eliminate the rejects generated by the treatment plant, unless it is equipped with an alternative to landfill Regent Mine. "

The Association does not hesitate to describe as deplorable and negligent attitude of policy makers of the City of Cartagena and the directors of the company Lhicarsa therefore allowed the burial of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of recycling and garbage without any control at a place should only have been sent "rejection" in breach of Spanish and EU legislation on urban waste management.

ANSE considered particularly serious the case closed in the Autonomous Community penalties for loss of documentation, and study various measures to require the purification of responsibility for the mismanagement of wastes, in addition to a very negative impact on the environment will be a high cost to the City Council and citizens.
