Thirty-eight new police officers start their training local (30/09/2008)

Thirty-eight students have begun this morning by the selective course of the local police officer on the premises of Cartagena Security Park, the fifth conducted by the Police Regional School and will allow these students, once passed, have the condition agent.

Of these 38 students, 26 are from the local police in Cartagena, which recently passed its opposition, and 12 Local Police from Torre Pacheco, La Union, San Javier and Fortuna.

The inauguration of this new training course attended by the director general of Local Government and Institutional Relations, Javier Iniesta, Councillor for Citizen Security, Enrique Pérez Abellán, the general director of Public Safety, Carlos Nieto, and the chief inspector Local police in Cartagena, Antonio García Ruiz.

The training course consists of 1,000 hours, about seven months and is divided into two phases: a first theoretical-practical in which students acquire knowledge of criminal law, administrative law, police intervention, relationship with the city, driving defense and police personnel and a second phase, approximately 500 hours, in which students work as interns in their municipalities supervised by local police officers.

Students who successfully complete these courses will become agents of the Special Units of Public Safety and are part of the 305 players included in the Phase II Regional Public Safety Plan, which must be added the 323 agents that are already in active.

As explained by the general director of Local Government and Institutional Relations, Javier Iniesta, later this year will be patrolling the streets of the Region a total of 628 agents of these special units.

Iniesta has clarified that, despite the crisis, the regional government continues to promote public safety in the cities, a bet that is guaranteed by the Regional Public Safety Plan, signed by the mayors of 45 municipalities in the region and effect until 2016.

With regard to the Regional Police and questions from journalists, Iniesta has indicated that the regional government continues with this project, but not in the short term, as a previous step to be reformed in a consensual manner the Statute of Autonomy.

Meanwhile, he said, we must not neglect the education of our local police and the means at their disposal, and continue to support municipalities in this area.

NEW BUILDING FOR THE LOCAL POLICE

Iniesta has been advanced that in the coming months will be the cornerstone of a new Police Service Centre in Cartagena, funded through an agreement with the regional government and will be housed in a new building within the Security Park.

The Director General of Security, Carlos Nieto, has stated that the building may be used at the end of 2009 and one of its functions will be to house the Special Units of Public Safety.

On the other hand, explained that Nieto will be operational shortly Local Security Academy, which is responsible for ongoing training of local police, firefighters and civil protection parallel to that received from the Directorate General of Local Government .

In front of it will be a new police inspector.
