New ASEAN members testify before the court, denounced for their action in favor of Salinas Marchamalo (16/09/2008)

Three members of the Southeastern Association of Naturalists (ANSE) reported this morning before the Court of Instruction No. 5 of Cartagena as defendants in an alleged crime for damages due to protest action held on 01/08/2007 in Marchamalo Salinas (La Manga).

Are added and three other members who testified in November 2007.

The accused have reiterated that the action was carried out with absolute respect to the salt plant, denying that the damage that the owner intends to charge them were made during the protest action, but which are, precisely, the deplorable state of deterioration suffer for years.

ANSE not hesitate in calling hoax and audacity of the complaint and warning business owners of the salt, the well-known construction companies Alfonso García Sánchez and Mariano Roca Meroño, who will step back in defending the protected area of the salinas, by many reports that attempt to intimidate the peaceful actions for conservation.

The Association held in August 2007 a protest by the malfunction of the salt, with abandonment of some of the ponds and salt extraction missing for years, it has had on several occasions the death of many fish.

Paradoxically, the information available within the website of the Ministry of the Environment warned of the risks of abandoning the salt industry on various natural values of the Mar Menor, and particularly the fartet, a small fish endemic to the Spanish Mediterranean coast.

ANSE Members then proceeded to the collection by manual means of a small mound of salt, to vindicate the dreadful state of the salt, which does not "harvest" continuously salt for years, although owners received a grant from the Autonomous Region for their maintenance.

Although participants in the action chosen one of the most damaged ponds of salt, the owners of these presented a report on alleged damages in the amount of 3,000 €.

It appears at least curious that despite this complaint against ANSE, not this summer has been harvesting of salt.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment is still not responding to reports of the Association.

Indeed, after repeated complaints about the failure ANSE of the collaboration between the company and the Autonomous Community, both organizations decided to terminate the collaboration agreement "by mutual agreement."

The budgets of the Autonomous Region for 2008 (Ministry of Sustainable Development and Planning), watched a game of 40,000 € for a collaboration agreement with the company Salinas de La Manga, SL for the "maintenance of the salt industry in Space Sheltered from the Salinas de Marchamalo, their monitoring and conservation work, in order to maintain populations of Aphanius iberus and waterfowl.
