The Minister of Social Policy at La Manga to visit children in care of Children's Home of Cartagena (26/08/2008)

The 29 smaller protected center of Cartagena 'Home for Children' are spending the summer in La Manga del Mar Menor, which have now been visited by the Minister of Social Policy, Women and Immigration Bascuñana Joaquin, who was accompanied the director general of Family and Children, Laura Muñoz.

The summer residence which houses children is located in Gran Vía de La Manga, near La Gola.

Of the 29 children, 17 are girls and 12 boys, aged between zero and seven years.

By nationality, the majority are Spanish born in the region (21) and the rest are from Ecuador (3), Bolivia (2), Morocco (1), Romania (1) and England (1).

There are 4 special needs children suffering from various mental and physical illnesses.

This summer resort was acquired in 1999 by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, and has three floors: the first and second for bedrooms, and downstairs to nursing, laundry, dining room and kitchen.

As the center 'Hogar de Cartagena', from which the child is located in the village, opposite the Sports Pavilion and its construction dates back to 1949.

A few years ago, in 2002, the collaborating institutions such as the Collective for Research, Education and Social Intervention (CEFISA), and the group of volunteers from General Electric (Elfun) carried out a major upgrading work from home and gardens.

The number of places conveniadas for children birth to six years is 28 throughout the year and throughout this course have passed through the center 57 children.

The current agreement was signed in December 2007 and the Ministry has allocated for this year a budget of 1,024,800 euros.
