Intercepted several boats with illegal immigrants during the day (29/07/2008)

A ship with eleven illegal immigrants on board was intercepted this afternoon at about sixty miles from Cabo de Palos, after a German ship locate the small boat, whose occupants are being taken to the port of Cartagena.

The boat they were traveling was adrift at sea it was impossible to be towed to port, while the eleven occupants of it were transhipped, around 16:30 hours at a coastguard boat which was escorted by a patrol of the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil.

The rescued were male, older and possibly Algeria.

All of them are in apparent good health.

Once the port is `made available to the National Police.

Twenty four other illegal immigrants who had reached the Spanish coast on board small boats have been intercepted today by agents of the Guardia Civil.

Almost all of them have already been made available to the National Police, who will instruct the appropriate files back to their country of origin.

The operation which led to the arrests was launched following that, shortly before last midnight, the Civil Guard was aware by the Maritime Rescue Service, that had been detected the presence of a dinghy type vessel in Calblanque area.

Moved to place a patrol of the Public Safety Unit of that body which located in Cala Magre a small boat of about 4 meters in length equipped with a small engine displacement.

Established deployment aimed to intercept the occupants of the boat, that resulted in, on 8'25 pm today, were located in the vicinity of Los Belones three people who were undocumented and take their clothes wet.

The device also led to the location of two more vessels, one in the bay of Portman, in the immediate vicinity of Cartagena, and another in the sea, off Cape Water.

Shortly after, around 9:00, the Civil Guard officers intercepted six immigrants in the tailings area and another in Portman.

Later, around 10:00, five immigrants were located in the hamlet of La Algameca.

Subsequently, about 11.30 hours, another group of immigrants, consisting of seven persons, was arrested by the Guardia Civil in the vicinity of tailings valley.

Finally, at about 15'20 pm in the refinery area two immigrants were intercepted.

The twenty-four immigrants are in apparent good health, although one of the tailings located in the early hours of the morning had to be assisted by hypothermia.

In the afternoon, Civil Guard officers have intercepted at Portman (The Union) two other illegal immigrants, who wore the clothes are still wet, so presumably would have reached the Spanish coast in one of the vessels located this morning in that area of the Mediterranean coast.

The two immigrants, who are males and seniors, appeared in good health.

With these two are a total of 37 immigrants intercepted today, because they have to add the eleven rescued this afternoon in a boat when sailing sixty miles from Cabo de Palos and 24 who had been detained on the ground along the today.
