Windmills of the Region, in a book (17/06/2008)

The Region of Murcia wants to show that the windmills are not the exclusive property of La Mancha and the proof is the book Windmills in the Region of Murcia.

Typology, criteria and guidelines for intervention, a publication of the Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural created with the intention of being a manual and a tool for future intervention projects in these buildings.

Enrique Ujaldón, Director of Fine Arts, explained during the presentation of the book - accompanied by the Councillor for Culture Rosario Montero and one of the coordinators of the publication, Inmaculada García Simón - that since the Community has special feeling for recovery popular heritage.

In this sense, the windmills are part of our landscape, our history and ourselves and conservation, not only the building but of its machinery and rural technology allow us to recover a way of life is being lost.

The book is thus part of this regional will that the past is not destroyed.

The book is a work of cataloging nearly 300 windmills in the region, all of them declared a Cultural (BIC).

Of these, almost 90% are in ruins, mainly by the condition of your machinery.

His recovery could be directed toward several lines: many of them could be preserved as buildings, machinery and others as others will seek an alternative use such as power generators.

The publication is divided into three parts.

The first, analysis, studies and proposals, which investigates the situation of windmills and provides proposals to intervene in such property, a second part, typological sheets, which reflect synthetically the main architectural elements of the machinery and damage affecting the buildings, adorned with photographs and detail drawings, and a third part, of old, with technical and practical aspects.

The book is designed for dissemination at all levels.

For this reason, be sent to the owners of the windmills, to municipalities and other institutions and the Official College of Architects, Technical Architects and Engineers.

SAILING WIND AMERICA, UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE

The proposal has a transnational character, as it seeks to establish a link between the parts of the Mediterranean have in common the existence of windmills with this type of candles, encompassing European and Arab countries.

GRANTS FOR RESTORATION

The Heritage Service of the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage is also directly involved in the restoration and rehabilitation of these buildings.

Thus, we have created, for example, two types of subsidies of 250,000 euros each, targeting municipalities and institutions, on the one hand, and individuals, on the other, to support the restoration and recovery of regional ethnographic heritage.

Furthermore, in 2009 will take place the restoration of the mill machinery San Quentin in San Pedro del Pinatar.
