The Councillor for Citizen Security, Public Roads and Services, Enrique Pérez Abellán, gathered yesterday in Madrid Broom Silver award with which the association ATEGRUS distinguishes the work of the City of Cartagena to improve street cleaning, collection of organic waste and selective treatment of such waste, as well as human resources, machinery and auxiliary equipment.
A total of 107 awards granted ATEGRUS, between Brooms Platinum, Gold, Silver and Honourable Mentions, institutions and governments who have excelled in this field.
The City of Cartagena was proposed last January by the association after supervising and checking the work of that over the past five years, reinforcing the image of cleaning to the citizens in the city and contributing to the awareness of these as collaboration with the cleaning services.
In this sense, the heavy investment that has been done in the City Council with the implementation of the EcoPark, the awareness campaign speeches in neighborhood associations, and the increase that took place last year in the number of vehicles (34) and containers (1,500), to improve street cleaning and refuse collection, with an investment of 5.5 billion euros.
The Technical Association for Waste Management and Environment (ATEGRUS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1974 and is the only Spanish association that covers all systems of waste management, urban sanitation and environment and brings together municipalities, enterprises and technicians to share their experiences and exchange views through their annual conferences, congresses, business meetings, competitions and awards.
