Military Naval Mine Warfare School of NATO in UPCT attend a workshop on underwater robotics (04/02/2016)

Laboratory directors underwater vehicles at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Antonio Guerrero and Javier Gilabert, paths have given presentations today at a workshop on robotic handling equipment under the sea for students of the Naval War College Mines NATO, which are this week visiting Cartagena.

Military Canada, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Lithuania and Latvia have attended this training seminar organized by the Campus Mare Nostrum and belgaholandesa Ecole de Guerre des Mines (EGUERMIN), which since 2006 is the Center excellence NATO Naval Mine Warfare.

The event, inaugurated Vice Rector of Research and Internationalization, Alejandro Diaz and Jose Manuel Ferrandez, including a demonstration with underwater vehicles at the Polytechnic of Cartagena Naval Station Algameca Navy.

Underwater Vehicles Laboratory has four underwater vehicles.

A ROV (remotely operated vehicle,) that can go down to great depths and is managed and powered by an umbilical cable of optical fiber, which also transmits data and high-resolution images in real time;

an underwater autonomous vehicle (AUV) with up to eight hours of battery life;

a mini ROV TELEOPERATED that lets you see in great detail shallow areas and a vehicle donated by the Spanish Armada.

This group also has the Polytechnic of Cartagena four unmanned aerial vehicles, two of them quadcopters type aerially to display the area of ​​interest and bounce signals emitted by marine vehicles to the control center as well as a vehicle robotic surface, which can be programmed to send that run automatically and broadcast live to the base station information that captures routes.
