Alumnus UPCT participate in the competition to develop the train levitate 1,100 km / h (03/02/2016)

The AVE can be outdated soon after arriving to the region if reality does Hyperloop project that has involved young Murcia: a means of transport that 'flies' to 1,100 kilometers per hour inside a tube with air at reduced pressure to reduce drag.

"An electric motor drives the Hyperloop, levitating through the high-pressure air that circulates in the capsule, and the discs in arcades hockey," says Miguel Pozuelo, alumnus of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) part one of the ten European teams that have participated in a competition to design the capsules will transport 20 to 30 passengers at a speed that will allow them to get from Los Angeles to San Francisco (563 kilometers) in just 30 minutes.

The first prototypes will be tested in June on a half kilometer tunnel under construction in California.

"Distances of around 500 kilometers, between cities with heavy traffic of travelers is the ideal medium for this mode of transport more profitable than conventional train or plane journey," says Miguel, which has been integrated into the team HYPED University of Edinburgh, where he did a Masters in Renewable Energy.

"In our project we propose a Hyperloop also be feasible between Edinburgh and London, and maybe also between Madrid and Barcelona," he adds.

In the international challenge issued by Elon Musk, founder of PayPal and Tesla Motors, among other revolutionary projects, involving more than one hundred teams from top universities worldwide.

"This weekend we attended the final selection stage in Texas, where they have given us an award for the modularity of our vehicle for loading and unloading of passengers," says the graduate of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

"The aim of the contest is to design Hyperloop be open and participatory, such as free software, and share ideas and solutions," he adds.

Miguel Pozuelo studying in Edinburgh thanks to a grant 'Iberdrola Scholarships' that last year gave the Kings of Spain.

It is his second stay in the Scottish city, after the past year completing his degree in Industrial Engineering and an equivalent degree in Environmental Energy thanks to the double degree agreement between UPCT and Napier University.
