Conference on Intercultural Mediation Intercultural Communities and graduates (10/12/2015)

The CEPAIM Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Social Services City of Cartagena, organizes and develops Technical Conference and Intercultural Mediation Intercultural Communities, held between Thursday morning and Friday in the auditorium of the building in the Graduate School Gisbert street.

They are aimed at professionals and volunteers of social and educational level, and aim to educate and raise awareness of the current situation of immigration in Spain, to address the problems that can find and identify intervention strategies and resolution of case studies, all aimed to establish the basis for a proper intercultural coexistence in our territory.

Councillor for Social Services, Carmen Martin, has been responsible for opening this conference with the President of CEPAIM, Juan Antonio Segura, indicating that it is promoting joint meeting spaces and reflection among professionals in the field of social action, in order to share elements of diagnosis and analysis of the situation as a step to meet the challenges that will involve the management of social and cultural diversity of our society.

This is a strategic starting point for the development of preventive policies that allow contextualize cultural diversity as an opportunity and not as a difficulty.

For his part, Juan Antonio Segura noted that this type of action organized by the closest to citizen institution, City Hall, are vital to managing diversity, since these spaces allow sharing time and experiences to improve training keep going.

He also indicated that he is living a time of alliances and it is time to work together so that citizens do not see diversity as a problem, overcoming the fear of difference.

In the presentation ceremony was also attended by the coordinator CEPAIM, Pedro Lopez;

Social Services Coordinator, Damian Perez, and Andrew Escarabajal, speaker of the first conference.

The contents will work specifically: Social Mediation and Intercultural Communities, by Andres Escarabajal Frutos (Thursday, 10 9:30 to 12:30 hours), and Case Studies.

Conflict Resolution, by Cheikh Mohamed Habib (Friday the 11th from 09:30 to 12:30).

Andres is Escarabajal European PhD in Social Pedagogy from the University of Murcia, a specialist in intercultural mediation by the School of Social Work, adviser-consultant practices and educational policies of local and regional governments, professor at the Faculty of Education at the University of Murcia.

He has participated in several research projects and is credited with more than 50 national and international publications.

Cheikh Mohamed Habib is intercultural mediator, specialist consultant on Migration and Solidarity degree in Communication Sciences from the University of East.

He worked as a Social Mediator Intercultural and as a Spanish teacher for immigrants to Caritas, and as Social Integration Technician in the municipality of Águilas.
