Citizens claims the return to Cartagena Photographic Historical Center Region (14/10/2015)

Cartagena citizens registered a motion in order to recover and revive CEHIFORM and rescue from oblivion the most valuable half a million images and iconographic documents

The Photographic Historical Center of the Region of Murcia (CEHIFORM) was an autonomous department created by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in 2001 in order to preserve and disseminate photography and all those who contribute iconographic documents released last historical and artistic heritage of the region of Murcia, and thus also contributing to recognize our present.

For all we know, it grew to more than 550,000 images of the past the region.

The Center opened on May 9, 2002, in its initial seat of the third floor of the Palacio de Aguirre, in Cartagena photographer Juan Manuel Diaz Burgos, as its first director.

After the inauguration of the Regional Museum of Modern Art (MURAM), the Center moved to the Casa del Niño, however, half of the 2010 "temporarily" moved to the General Archive of the region located in the city of Murcia (where it has I been getting only classification and conservation treatments) until the rehabilitation of the building of the House of the Child, a project that has been partially and insufficiently implemented and today remains stalled, unresolved was made.

The result of this transfer, the CEHIFORM has fallen in the most absolute forgetfulness until today.

Five years of historical memory of this community literally buried.

From Citizens believe it is now time to regain momentum CEHIFORM and plan their return to Cartagena, either back to the Casa del Niño (now there appears to be, again, political will for full rehabilitation), or looking alternative location facilities the City Council or any other institution that lend to collaborate.

For this, the Municipal Group has already registered a motion to urge the council to work for his return, and in turn, the Consistory urge the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Culture to facilitate removal and recovery.

It would also be feasible and economically viable, as once said sources close to CEHIFORM published in the press five years ago: "Keep open the Regional Historical Center Photographic costs two dollars, compared with millonadas invested in art biennials or macrofestivals. "

Citizens want a CEHIFORM actively develop photographic research, compile and catalog our photographic heritage, and bid an extensive program of training, issuing publications, organizing exhibitions and cultural events celebrating.

A center that helps promote the cultural dimension of the city of Cartagena and by extension the region.

In short, a center with vocation to promote the study and research of our roots, and its dissemination, especially among the young.

The Community and Cartagena can not stay longer ignoring and wasting the regional treasury and its possibilities.

Cartagena wants to remind citizens that, in just eight years (from 2002 to 2010), the CEHIFORM did a great job of gathering documentary, from 15,000 pieces have initially get compile a collection of over 550,000 images composed of historical collections photographers Jose casau, Fernando Navarro and Martinez Blaya;

Files authors like Juan Saez, Joaquin Padilla, Antonio Abellan, Ginés López and Juan Orenes;

Collection photojournalist Carlos Gallego and hundreds of anonymous authors who helped rescue our past and preserve it until today.

As usually declare the paleontological researcher José Luis Arsuaga: "It is impossible to know who we are unless we know where we came from."
