The meeting held in the afternoon on Friday between the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, and COAG, has been a first contact to start working from the newly created Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, one that i NITIATIVE Farmers applaud.
At the meeting, Lopez showed their support to this sector and noted that it has already addressed interesting topics such as water scarcity in the Cartagena field, investment in R & D in the agricultural sector since the UPCT, matching paths rural or surveillance to prevent theft on farms.
For his part, President of the Confederation of Agricultural Unions (COAG) in Cartagena, Vicente Carrió n, said he was surprised by the degree of knowledge of agricultural issues that have shown both the mayor, Jose Lopez, Deputy Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belen Castejó n, also present at the meeting with the mayor of the newly created area, Obdulia Gomez.
Moreover, Carrion was very pleased with the creation of the Department of Agriculture, ensuring that a municipality like Cartagena should always have had with this organism, although municipal powers in this area are limited, since the municipal administration should be closer to its neighbors, in this case, neighbors who are dedicated to the agriculture sector and livestock.
Since COAG Cartagena has exposed the need for skilled labor for farm work and livestock, so from the Department of Agriculture and from the Local Development Agency and Employment (ALDE) have shown favor to teach courses agricultural training in municipal offices, besides demanding the Ministry of Education in training cycles there is an adequate supply of securities to suit the needs of skilled manpower required by the primary sector in the Campo de Cartagena.
