Marine Veterans proposed erecting a monument against Arsenal (09/07/2015)

The National Federation of Veterans Marine Corps has proposed this afternoon the mayor, Jose Lopez, who erected in Cartagena a monument to this popular body of the Navy, so deeply rooted in the city.

Its president, Ramon Galindo Martinez, who has come to the meeting accompanied by another member of the Board, Enrique Martinez Gallego, presented the initiative to Jose Lopez, who received very positively.

He explained the idea is to build Galindo in the Plaza del Rey, facing the door of Arsenal, a statue to original size, that would represent a member of the picket parading on Easter, in his characteristic martial attitude.

For Galindo, Cartagena has a debt with the Marines Third Levante and is the oldest unity that exists in the city for almost five centuries.

In addition it would complement the images of Army soldier and sailor replacement installed in the vicinity of the square of the Heroes of Cavite, whose prints populated the streets and entertainment establishment in the city, during the years of service conscription.

The statue could be erected along next year and will also claim, as Galindo, for the thousands of Spaniards who performed their military service here in the Marines, and want to return to visit the city or meet again with his former colleagues, constituting a undeniable tourism potential.
