An expert stated in the UPCT that Spain is the sixth largest in mathematical research (15/05/2015)

One of the international experts in Jesus Sanz-Serna Hamiltonian systems, says that Spain is the sixth largest in mathematical research.

The teacher made these remarks during a visit to the Polytechnic University of Cartagena with the rest of the researchers who participated this week in the International Congress of Applied Mathematics organized UPCT Professor Juan Luis García Guirao.

In the words of Sanz-Serna, "mathematical research in Spain is fine.

In math we are above than our fair demographic weight in the world and I believe that in universities and the Polytechnic of Cartagena is mathematics worldwide, "he noted.

According to the mathematician, "we are not the best in the world, but if our economy is the strongest tenth of the world, more or less, mathematically be the sixth or the seventh world power of investigation."

During his visit to the university, the expert also recalled that in the country the money should not invest in research, "Since the crisis came invests much less and do what you can with what they give us" .

It also states that when the economic crisis, Spain "began its growth model should have been reconsidered, he should have thought that it is not the interest of the country's bet on sectors of low added value such as the service sector and countries economically powerful are those who bet on the knowledge economy, but we had the opposite reaction. "

He believes that it is "strangling" innovation centers and universities and notes that for several years "it is aging activity" due to the lack of vocations math.

"Maybe we lose all the progress that is being made in research because there are no funds for young people from joining," he adds.

Sanz-Serna is considered one of the greatest international experts in Hamiltonian systems.

Explains that these are applied to the movement of molecules, to the creation of drugs, the control of artificial satellites or the movement of the aircraft.

He considers that mathematics "are the invisible science because people do not see and do not realize they are everywhere."
