The City of Cartagena will make no extermination of cats (07/05/2015)

The Councillor for Health, Nicholas Angel Bernal has denied any information that talked about extermination of cats and has also clarified the procedures to regularize the management of urban colonies of cats.

At the failure of the existing agreement between the City and the Association Four Cats in December 2012, the Council has just spoken to control and manage the colonies under the regional law provides, but never exterminate them.

The mayor wanted to demonstrate and clarify the status of these colonies and extermination deny the report, which is totally false.

Four Cats Association reached an agreement with the city in 2012 for the authorization of urban colonies of cats, finally, on December 13, 2012 allowed the existence of five urban settlements, which were located in the places agreed with the association.

Besides the places where colonies would be located, the agreement also provided maintenance conditions, including compliance with periodic reporting requirements, and since mid-2013 has not been made.

Nicholas Angel Bernal said that the breach of the agreement of December 2012 would be the withdrawal of the cats in the public domain and strict implementation of the Municipal Animal Protection Society.

But never the City of Cartagena, by the apparent failure of the association, nor removed or deleted any unauthorized colony, much less killed off any cat.

The mayor explained that the City Council now has to control the colonies under existing regional legislation, especially after the publication of an Order of June 25, 2013 of the Ministry of Health for the control and eradication of rabies in animals and the prevention of risks to public health. In addition, Nicholas Angel Bernal stressed that we are talking about a public health issue, where you have to combine all the interests involved.

The councilman of Health requested the development of a municipal plan for Comprehensive Management of cat colonies, and therefore is notified to the Association Cuatro Gatos, dated March 30, 2015, where the City Council indicates that the term has a month to meet the standard and which otherwise would be withdrawn from the street to those who were not controlled by the plan.

Given this, the association has not communicated with the Department, but are not intended to exterminate any colony of cats.

In the case of failing to follow the agreement, the colonies would be removed from the street and would be sent to CATAD.

B ut still have until the end of May and really hope to reach an agreement with Cuatro Gatos, he has conveyed the mayor.
