Science for Inclusion develops workshops for children at risk of social exclusion (04/05/2015)

The Science Project for Inclusion, headed by the professor of physics at the University of Murcia, Antonio Guirao, launched last week the first of its workshops, which took place at the Virgen de la Caridad neighborhood.

This project consists of the completion of scientific workshops for children who are at risk or in social exclusion, so that the initiative uses science as a tool to help care programs that perform various organizations Murcia.

Until now collaborating organizations such as Caritas, Abraham Project and Astrada (Association for the care of people with developmental disorders) and the City of Cartagena through the Department of Social Services.

The idea is to scientific demonstrations on a regular basis with each organization.

In addition, following the completion of each workshop to the teaching materials will be given to children that they can make some of these experiments by themselves while workers organizations receive materials that can be used in other actions of social care.

The project, as explained Guirao, aims to contribute to a new and complementary to the activities of inclusion and care already made item.

The Science for Inclusion project adds to other similar activity taking place for two years in hospitals in the region led by the same teacher, Little Big Science, with the aim of bringing the knowledge of science and technology to children admitted to such health centers.

Both activities are financed by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and are developed in collaboration with NGOs and the Regional Administration.
