Visitors to the Roman Theatre in Cartagena continue to grow (02/02/2015)

The progression has remained in January 2015 with another increase of 20 percent compared to January last year |

Teatro Romano visits continue to grow.

This has been highlighted in the report that was presented this morning at the meeting of the foundation that runs the flagship of archeology in Cartagena, chaired by the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro.

According to the report, during 2014, the Roman Theatre of Cartagena and its museum has been visited by more than 161,000 people, representing an increase of 10% over the previous year, being the year with the highest number of visitors since its opening in 2008.

Since then there have been about 966,955 people by the monumental, making it the most visited region of Murcia and one of the most visited museums nationwide Museum.

76% of visitors in 2014 were of individual character and focused between the months of April to October.

This public a number corresponds to foreigners staying on the beaches of the region or come aboard a cruise and they mean 64% of individual visits.

24% are group visits, of which 35% are school children from the region, and to a lesser amount of Albacete, Alicante and Almería, 22% of visits Senior trips, and 32% visits groups of foreigners mostly from cruise ships that dock in the city.

The rest belongs to various associations and cultural groups.

As to the origin of visitors, 53% are domestic visitors.

Among the highlights domestic visitors from Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia, Catalonia and Castile-La Mancha.

Foreign visitors this year have meant 49% of the visitors, this percentage 41% are English, US 18%, 9% German, French 8% and 3% of Russians.

The increase in visits during 2014, has also remained in the first month of 2015, if compared with January 2014, has been a growth of 20 percent.

ACTIONS TO INCREASE VISITS

As stated by the Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero, the Museum of Roman Theatre has sought over the years, and ensure the conservation of collections and monument, increasing the number of visitors and increase their degree of loyalty by different promotion policies, attention and welcome visitors, and diversification of the services offered, which has consolidated annually a figure close to 135,000 visitors every year and is being overcome.

Another of the actions undertaken since 2014, according to the councilor, has been the incorporation of Audioguías in three Spanish, English and French.

Also has been published brochure Museum in 5 languages: Spanish, English, French, Russian and German.

Finally, in collaboration with the Digital Office City Council has developed a new website with the main objective to increase awareness of the museum and its activities through internet and facilitate online access to various services of the museum and create community through social networks participating in the ongoing dialogue on heritage and museums. In 2014 this website received 279,650 visits.
