The new irrigation system in Victor Beltrí save up to 30 percent water (16/01/2015)

A lack of finishing touches, the work of improving the long avenue of entry to Cartagena in the north are almost finished, a performance that has been the landscaping of the median and roundabouts walking this route

The Department of Infrastructure of the City of Cartagena has already practically completed the work to improve the urban landscape in the Avenue Victor Beltrí where you are putting the finishing touches to the design of the median and roundabouts that make up this great route of entry north of the city, covering an area of around 17,000 square meters.

As explained by the mayor of the area, Francisco Espejo, this work consisted basically in the landscaping of the area, planting trees, palms and shrubs, in addition to the adequacy of the pavement and especially and most novel, installing a remote management system of irrigation, getting in turn an important landscape improvement of one of the main entrances to the city.

This system consists of a network of irrigation remote controlled via GPRS, whose communication elements are noticeable in some of the streetlights that cross the avenue along the right bank, and generate a series of alarms via internet when a hydraulic problem is detected, such as leakage or cuts.

This will contribute to saving water resources, estimated at over 30 percent, in addition to energy savings and maintenance, as it can regulate run times.

Both the median and the three roundabouts of the avenue have been planted over 2,000 specimens of native species, among which predominate cypresses, lantana, palm, palm and olive trees wasintonas species that do not require too much maintenance for conservation.

In the case of palm trees, have been chosen for this species to be affected by the plague of red palm weevil less.

He has also served aesthetics when designing the landscaping of roundabouts, so that in each there are two areas, according to the direction of traffic in one side mimics an olive grove and the other a palm grove.

The works, which have been implemented within a planned month, have had a budget of 360,000 euros.
