Hall, and CICOP UPCT work to be Cartagena Cultural Landscape of Humanity (22/07/2014)

Today the committee has been constituted in which the three institutions to shape a project that will focus on the port of the city and aims to get one of the distinctions awarded by UNESCO, in the category of Cultural Landscape Associative

According to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), Cultural Landscapes l will represent the combined works of nature and man that show the evolution of human society and settlement over time, and if a city is a clear example of this, that is Cartagena, especially its port.

Just around the port and its history, will turn the project that today they will work the City, Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the International Center for Heritage Conservation (CICOP), after the formation of the executive committee for initiative Cartagena Cultural Landscape of Humanity, in which the mayor, Pilar Barreiro have been present;

With the creation of this committee began an important journey, the mayor noted, the purpose is to achieve recognition for the city we hope to achieve over time.

Barreiro has also announced that in February, the delivery of international awards CICOP take place in Cartagena, as you said the director of the Centre.

According to Fernandez Matrán, Cartagena birth but living in the Canary Islands, Cartagena has the necessary values ​​for which UNESCO considers it in the category of Cultural Landscape of Humanity, specifically as Cultural Landscape Associative, as it offers a number of key cultural aspects for history, not only of the city but across the country.

In this sense, the director of CICOP entity of which the initiative, stressed the importance of communication and dissemination of scientific work in this project, where one of the core values ​​is the port based, counting to support the archaeological remains of the city.

Thus, the process has started today with the signing of the founding document composed of City Hall, and CICOP UPCT committee, which undertake to implement the scientific project that starts the application, which, in turn, will rise to the Ministry of Culture for this this by Spain to UNESCO.
