Former City Council administration building will become a dormitory with 250 seats (15/07/2014)

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) rehabilitate and expand the former administrative building of the City as a new college dorm.

The preliminary plans to build a new university residence between 235 and 250 accommodation units, underground parking, fitness center and a shopping area.

The Vice President for Infrastructure, Equipment and Sustainability will bring tender writing the final draft, the execution of the works and the subsequent management of all in the form of operating concession for a period of 40 years at a company or group of companies .

The estimated investment amounts to 10.3 million euros.

The draft includes the construction of a shopping mall of 500 square meters to accommodate commercial establishments that primarily provide service to the university community of nearly 8,000 people, including students, staff and administrative staff teaching and research.

There are also plans to build a sports center of 1500 m2 that will replace existing facilities at the Club Santiago, and a building of 950 m2 as an extension of the current home of the Chancellor.

Also construction of an underground parking for 150 and generating a large square in the current surface parking with a viewpoint towards the Club Santiago is expected.

After the rehabilitation of the old administration building, owned by UPCT University leave the dorms Alberto Colao and Knight Street.
