A tent at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena remembers the Sahara conflict (26/05/2014)

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) held this week at the School of Business Ciencas a conference on Saharawi culture to sensitize the university community in particular and public in general, about the process of Sahrawi national liberation and conflict causes half of these people live for decades in refugee camps in the desert.

Conferences, workshops and roundtables featuring this conference will focus on the history and evolution of a people who have been deprived of his liberty due to the military occupation of their territories by other countries.

The current situation in the Sahara, international law and human rights, the work of the Saharawi women in the struggle of his people or global solidarity in support of the just struggle of the Saharawi are some of the talks that will be presented during the 4-day duration of the conference.

Also, among the actions planned, will take place the presentation of the book "Spring Sahrawi Gdeim Izik" Saharawi tea tasting, a sample of henna tattoos and conducting one of the proposed sessions in a tent installed on the courtyard of the Faculty of Business for the occasion.

At the opening of the conference the Minister of Culture attended the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Jadja Hamdi, the member of the Polisario Front and the Saharawi representative in Spain, Bouchraya hamudi Beyun and State Coordinating Associations of Solidarity with the Sahara ( CEAS-Sahara), José Taboada Valdés and the Vice Chancellor for Student and University Extension UPCT and political and trade union representatives of the Region of Murcia.

The various activities to be performed are supported by the Saharawi delegation to the autonomous community of Murcia and the Solidarity Movement in the Region of Murcia, together with Associations of Friends of the Saharawi people and Sahara Community in the Region of Murcia.

The closure will take place in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Molina de Segura on the 29th, where a concentration is held on behalf of the Saharawi political prisoners, and will feature the mayor of the municipality, Eduardo Contreras Linares.
