Cartagena pays tribute to poet José María Alvarez à (21/01/2014)

A round table, a poetry reading and a talk in which part the author, make the events to be held on 24 January and will end on 25 with the unveiling of a plaque at the site where the writer was born Cartagena

The Cartagena poet José María Alvarez Ã, author of great international recognition, will receive a tribute from his city of birth, an initiative of a group of citizens and friends and has the support of the City of Cartagena, and that, as the Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero, during the presentation of the events, we must recognize the merits in life, so that the hero can enjoy.

Statement corroborated the honoree himself, who has expressed grateful with this tribute to him yield on 24 and 25 January, in the Cultural Hall of the Social Work Caja Mediterráneo entity with which the poet began to his first steps back in 57, so the territorial manager recalled the same, Antonio Rubira.

The events begin on Friday, January 24 with a panel discussion about the life and work of José María Alvarez Ã, from 17.00 to 19.00, followed by a Poetry Recital and a talk with the author himself.

The tribute will culminate on Saturday, January 25th, with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque on the house that the poet was born, located on the corner of Santa Florentina with doors Murcia.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

José María Alvarez à born in Cartagena on May 31, 1942.

Bachelor of Arts, his life has been devoted to literature and travel.

His first literary performances took place in 1957 in the Cultural Hall of the Savings Bank of the South: Cine-organizing clubs, lectures, theater, etc..

From this period date his first publications: Poetry and Soul and Psyche.

It has been translated into Spanish works of Cavafy and Robert Louis Stevenson, translations that have become best sellers and have significantly influenced the development of Spanish poetry.

He has also done readings of his poetry and has lectured worldwide.

His poetry has been shaped over the years a book, Wax Museum, which was extended in successive editions since the first, in 1974, to the last in 2002.
