In a plot that is being restored with the support of the City of Cartagena IMSEL

This species formed by historical texts, coastal forests with juniper dunes in Manga Mar Menor, at least until the end of S.

XVI, but died later.

The return of this species has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the Biodiversity Foundation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and has had the support of the Municipal Nursery in El Saler (Devesa-Albufera service of the City of Valencia ) staff and Wildlife Service / CIEF of the Generalitat Valenciana.

In the morning volunteers Southeastern Association of Naturalists and Ecologists in Action have carried out 20 copies planting dune juniper (Juniperus macrocarpa) on the west slope of Mount Blanco (La Manga) in a public plot of sand that has been restored by Anse in a little over a year in collaboration with the City of Cartagena IMSEL, having undertaken the removal of refuse and debris, as well as the replacement of invasive Australian acacias by dune native flora.

Last year dune species such as juniper dunes (Juniperus turbinata) accompanied by shrubs (http://bit.ly/1kLBrOR) as mastic and palm hearts were introduced.

Various historical texts confirm that juniper dunes (Juniperus macrocarpa) along with juniper dunes, coastal forests formed in La Manga to S.

XVI.

Subsequently, these forests probably disappeared as a result of logging (requested by the City Council of the city of Cartagena as protection against the Barbary pirates in 1582) and subsequent harvesting (farming, urban development, etc.).

Recently it had planted some isolated specimen from Amoladeras Cadiz and San Pedro del Pinatar, but it's the first time a population is established from Mediterranean material.

Juniper Dunes (Juniperus macrocarpa) is a threatened species in Spain, and therefore is listed as "Vulnerable" according to Atlas and Red Book of the vascular flora of Spain.

Be tree is scattered along the coasts of southern and eastern populations of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and its much rarer Mediterranean populations and localized than those in the Atlantic coast (Cádiz and Huelva) (http:// bit.ly/1bQqkD9).

Both Anse and Ecologists in Action is essential to consider the urgent development of conservation actions dune flora of the Region of Murcia.

In this regard, they recalled the difficult situation in which species such as sea carrot (Echinophora spinosa) (http://bit.ly/1bGJRSj) and are asking for the immediate approval of the Recovery Plan juniper dunes ( Juniperus turbinata) that were subject to public exhibition in February 2013 (http://bit.ly/19KSGKR).

Return Juniper Dunes La Manga has been made possible by the transfer of plant material by the Municipal Viveros El Saler (Devesa-Albufera of Valencia City Council service), and the support of biologists CWS / CIEF Life Generalitat Valenciana.

It has also introduced a hundred copies of other characteristics of the dune plant species that have been produced in the nursery Anse under the agreement with the city of Cartagena.

This initiative is part of the "Actions conservation and recovery of habitats and unique species of the Mar Menor and its environment" with the collaboration of the Biodiversity Foundation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment project.
