Award three students work on antennas Teleco (20/09/2013)

Three young researchers, PhD students have been honored for their work on antennas. |

The three students enrolled in the Master of Information Technology and Communications (ICT) and performed his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Dr. José Luis Gómez Tornero Applied Electromagnetics Group on Telecommunications (GEAT).

Guzman Raul Quiros received the URSI Young Scientist Award of the International Scientific Radio Union, which has been granted within the national congress URSI2013.

In his doctoral thesis, Guzman proposes a new type of electronically reconfigurable antenna.

This antenna can therefore adapt the direction of electromagnetic radiation in real time, adapting to the needs and characteristics of the environment.

The work is done in collaboration with the Australian CSIRO, based in Sydney.

In this congress has been a finalist for the same award also another doctoral student of Master ICT, Jorge Garrido Holgado.

Garrido thesis proposes a new type of antenna to increase the transmission speed in cellular base stations for fourth generation (4G LTE).

The antenna proposed by Garrido to send two beams of simultaneous and independent information, thus increasing the capacity and number of users.

On the other hand, the student Alejandro Javier Martinez Ros is a finalist in the International Congress Antennas and Propagation (APS 2013) held in Orlando, USA

Martinez proposed a new microwave applicator can concentrate electromagnetic energy into a focal point for scientific and medical applications.

Another thesis work was also Martinez URSI conference finalist last year 2012.

This thesis examines Martinez microwave holography techniques for the design of new low-cost antennas focusing power and radiated beam forming.

This thesis is being carried out in collaboration with Queens University Belfast in the UK.

Gómez Tornero stressed that "these four domestic and international mentions these research demonstrate the great skills they acquire our doctoral students and high commitment to excellence ETSIT researchers".
