The Recovery Project and Neighborhood Conservation Pinwheel Roman Forum (Cartagena), National Award for Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Property 2012 (30/11/2012)

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport has today awarded the National Award for Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Property to "Draft Comprehensive Conservation and Recovery Quarter Pinwheel Roman Forum", in the city of Cartagena.

It is endowed with 30,000 euros.

The jury awarded the prize in recognition of the quality of a multidisciplinary intervention including archaeological research, restoration of cultural property set musealization and dissemination, with an important component of social participation.

It highlights the comprehensive nature of the intervention, which represents the contribution to urban regeneration and economic development in an urban area, as well as joint composition of the team that made the project.

The National Award for Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Heritage was established in 1994 and since then is given annually by the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets, Archives and Libraries of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, to persons or institutions that by their works or active participation in the field of restoration and conservation, contribute to enriching the cultural heritage of Spain.

The Jury

The jury, chaired by the Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets, Jesus Prieto, was composed of Idoia Camiruaga, architect, appointed by the Council of Colleges of Architects of Spain, José Luis Merino, head of the Department of Restoration Fine Arts Museum of Bilbao, designed by the Spanish Group of the Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, National Award for Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Property, 2011, Carmen Perez Garcia, director of the Valencian Institute for Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property designated by ICOMOS; Fernando Marias, Professor of Art History at the Autonomous University of Madrid, appointed by the Royal Academy of History, Elisa de Cabo, deputy director general of Historical Heritage of the Secretary of State for Culture, designated by International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), Victor Medina, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada, appointed by the Spanish Group of the Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works; Maria de los Angeles and Querol, specialist conservation and restoration of cultural property designated by the Department of Prehistory, Faculty of Geography and History at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

He has served as secretary Alfonso Muñoz, Assistant Director General of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain.
